In 2019, the China NZ Cultural Exchange Centre (Auckland, New Zealand) became the designated Southern-Hemisphere partner for China's National Ski Team, hosting training for more than 200 athletes across Australia and New Zealand to provide solid off-season training support ahead of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Why the Southern Hemisphere
Limited by the Northern Hemisphere's seasons, national winter-sport teams often train off-season in the Southern Hemisphere during summer. Australia and New Zealand offer premium snowfields and a mature hospitality system, making them the preferred overseas training destinations for the National Ski Team. Drawing on over two decades of local delivery capability in Australia and New Zealand, the Centre took charge of the overall arrangements during the training period.
- Coordinated snowfield schedules and on-site support
- Managed accommodation, transport and logistics for 200+ athletes
- Provided local airport pickup, living and safety support
- Connected China–NZ and China–AU education and sports-exchange resources
From education to sport: an extension of exchange
This national-level cooperation extended the Centre's mission of "connecting China and the world" into sport. After education and cultural cooperation, the Centre once again earned the trust of a national programme through reliable local execution, further demonstrating its comprehensive strength in Australia–New Zealand resource integration and large-team on-site service.
